4.1. Methodological overview

The methodology followed in this course is oriented towards the achievement of the learning objectives. A wide range of teaching and learning tasks are implemented, such as lectures, practice sessions, autonomous work, study and assessment tasks.

Students are expected to participate actively in class throughout the semester.

Further information regarding the course will be provided on the first day of class.

4.2. Learning tasks

The course includes the following learning tasks:

  • Readings: Thomas More’s Utopia or Erasmus Encomium Moriae.
  • Translation and commentary of humanistic Latin texts of verse and prose.

4.3. Syllabus

The course will address the following topics: 

  • Topic 1. The Renaissance Latin Humanism.
  • Topic 2. Editing latin humanistic texts.
  • Topic 3. The humanistic Latin and his teaching.
  • Topic 4. The Humanism in Italy.
  • Topic 5. European humanism. Erasmus of Rotterdam.
  • Topic 6. Spanish humanism.
  • Topic 7. Latin-Aragonian humanists.
  • Topic 8. The classical tradition: concept and methodology.
  • Topic 9. The classical tradition in Spanish literature.
